Commonsense Organics is such a well known Wellington brand. We were rapt when they chose Springload to design and build their new website.

The brief was to showcase their products, improve the current online shopping experience, and provide a means of sharing various resources - from eating healthy, to environmental sustainability, to seasonal eating.

The heart of the Commonsense Organics site is the retail Point of Sale system developed and built by Fieldpine. This POS is used to manage stock levels and sales in the retail stores. We worked hard with Fieldpine to expose the product data onto the site to the point that all products are managed on the POS rather than through the Content Management System. If new categories are added to Fieldpine these categories are automatically generated in the navigation on the website. Updating only needs to happen in one place.

Products on the site are found by a simple search function. The results are then able to be filtered according to dietary requirements or other preferences. Because Commonsense Organics deal with seasonal produce it was very important that each product could be identified as being 'in or out of season', as well as 'New Zealand made' or 'Fairtrade'.

Purchasing can be done with or without an account. The benefit of logging in though is that the last purchase can be retrieved and modified, saving time for those with regular orders.

Along the way we redesigned the Commonsense Organics logo to a more earthy but considered mark that would work equally well both online and offline. If you pass by the Wellington city store you'll see the new logo at the top of signage reminiscent of a roadside vegetable stall.

The result is a site that looks great, matches the Commonsense Organics philosophy and brand sentiments but at the same time offers great functionality for customers who in the past may have been more inclined to shop in-store.
